Telephone conversation with President of the United States of America Barack Obama

Dmitry Medvedev had a telephone conversation with US President Barack Obama on the American side’s initiative.

Both presidents noted with satisfaction the progress achieved in implementing the agreements on completing bilateral talks regarding Russia’s accession to the WTO, and expressed a general desire for further close cooperation in this direction, including within the framework of joint work in a multilateral format.

Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama positively assessed the process of ratifying the START treaty and confirmed their commitment to further synchronise their efforts to put this strategically important agreement serving the interest of both nations and ensuring global security into effect.

The two leaders also had an engaged and constructive exchange of views on current international issues. The presidents confirmed their readiness to coordinate actions in order to strengthen international and regional stability.

Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama also discussed the schedule for their upcoming contacts at the highest level.

Following the telephone conversation with US President Barack Obama, Dmitry Medvedev met with First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov.

The President thanked the Government Cabinet for its work aimed at completing bilateral talks and gave instructions to technically formalize the agreements reached with the United States.

Dmitry Medvedev also gave instructions to step up multi-party talks on Russia’s accession to the WTO, which will be the final stage of its entry to that organisation.
