Dmitry Medvedev approved a list of instructions following a September 16 meeting on agricultural and fishing products processing.
The Government of the Russian Federation was instructed to draft a Government Programme for the Development of Agriculture and Regulation of Agricultural Produce, Raw Materials and Foodstuffs Markets for 2013–2017 which should envisage special efforts for advancing the food industry and pay particular attention to its technical and technological modernisation.
The instructions specifically concern passing technical regulations for foods produced from aquatic bio-resources in line with the unification of requirements to imported and domestic products; improving customs and tariffs policy for the purposes of stimulating technical renovation of the food and processing industry and the development of national fishing industry; and preventing situations of unfair competition by foreign producers.
The Government was also ordered to offer a programme for training agro-industrial and fishing industries’ specialists at leading foreign educational institutions.
Various instructions were issued to the Ministry of Agriculture and the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare.
