Vladimir Putin sent a message of greeting to the President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas in connection with the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
The telegram reads, in part:
“Russia has been consistently supporting the speedy enforcement of the lawful right of the Palestinian people to an independent, territorially integral and viable state. We proceed from the notion that the acquisition of national sovereignty by Palestine on a common international legal basis would become an important factor of a fair overall Middle East settlement. We are prepared, within the framework of multilateral efforts and in close cooperation with you to continue assisting in the resumption of negotiations between Palestine and Israel.
I am happy to note the friendly and constructive nature of Russian-Palestinian relations. I am certain that further strengthening of the entire set of mutually beneficial bilateral relations meets the fundamental interests of our peoples. I would like to confirm Russia’s intent to further assist Palestinian authorities in establishing national statehood and in resolving pressing social and economic issues.”
