Vladimir Putin congratulated President of Palestine and Head of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmoud Abbas on International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
The message reads, in part:
“On November 29, 1947, the UN General Assembly passed its historic resolution 181 on the Palestinian issue. Since that moment, your people’s greatest objective has been to establish their own state. Seeing the years of selfless work by several generations of Palestinians and their desire for independence and sovereignty, I am sure that this is an attainable goal.
In Russia we hold the firm conviction that a just political solution to the Palestinian question is the main condition for achieving comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East. This goal is especially relevant today with the deep transformations currently taking place in the region.
As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and participant in the quartet of international mediators, Russia will continue to actively support all efforts aimed at bringing closer a final settlement of the Middle East conflict.
We have always supported the friendly Palestinian people. You can continue to count on our practical help in building the foundations of Palestine’s statehood and solving other relevant issues.”
