Dmitry Medvedev sent his condolences to President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai following the murder of his brother, head of the Kandahar Provincial Council, Ahmed Wali Karzai.
In his telegram, the President said, in particular:
“I express my profound and sincere condolences over the treacherous killing of your brother, head of the Kandahar Provincial Council, Ahmed Wali Karzai.
Ahmed Wali Karzai was a prominent political figure in Afghanistan’s recent history. He steadily and firmly pursued government policy in what is one of your country’s most difficult regions. He fell victim to the uncompromising fight against extremism. I am sure that the people of Afghanistan will always hold his memory dear.
I am sure that those who organised and executed this inhuman act will receive the strict and just punishment they deserve. Through our combined efforts we will vanquish terrorism.”
