At the Sevmash shipyard in Severodvinsk, the President took part in the ceremony to raise naval flags on nuclear-powered submarines Emperor Alexander III and Krasnoyarsk.
The nuclear-powered submarine Emperor Alexander III is the third serial-produced ship of the upgraded Borei-A project, which belongs to the fourth generation of nuclear ships. This submarine is equipped with modern systems of missile and torpedo weapons, navigation, radioelectronic and hydroacoustic weapons.
The Krasnoyarsk is the second multi-purpose nuclear-powered submarine of the upgraded Yasen-M project, which also belongs to the fourth generation of nuclear ships. Improvements were made to the submarine’s element base of radioelectronic weapons systems, and its equipment and materials were upgraded.
Vladimir Putin then boarded frigate Admiral Kasatonov, where he inspected the ship’s weapons systems. As a memento of his visit, the President signed the distinguished visitors’ book.
The Project 22350 first serial-produced frigate Admiral of the Fleet Kasatonov was built at Severnaya Verf shipyard (the Northern Shipyard) in St Petersburg and is part of the Northern Fleet.

Speech at ceremony for raising naval flags on nuclear submarine cruisers, Emperor Alexander III and Krasnoyarsk
President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Comrade officers,
I would like to greet you on this momentous day as the naval flags are being hoisted on the nuclear submarines Emperor Alexander III and Krasnoyarsk. These formidable missile carriers, unmatched in their class, start their service as part of our Navy.
We are consistently equipping the Navy with cutting-edge equipment and weaponry and, importantly, expanding the serial production: Emperor Alexander III is the seventh Borei-class strategic missile carrier, while the Krasnoyarsk cruiser is the fourth Yasen-class multi-purpose nuclear-powered submarine.
Notably, naming the Borei-class ballistic missile submarines after outstanding Russian military commanders and statesmen is a tradition. The nuclear cruisers Yury Dolgoruky, Alexander Nevsky, Vladimir Monomakh, Knyaz Vladimir, Knyaz Oleg, and Generalissimus Suvorov, and now Emperor Alexander III, will reliably safeguard Russia's security for many years to come, fulfilling missions related to strategic deterrence.
Each of the above vessels is armed with Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles.
The multi-purpose Yasen-M-class nuclear-powered submarines possess formidable weaponry as well. They are equipped with precision long-range missiles and can strike surface and coastal targets alike.
Soon, the ballistic missile submarines Emperor Alexander III and Krasnoyarsk will begin their service as part of the Pacific Fleet to guard the eastern borders of our Fatherland.
Efforts to enhance Russia’s naval power will, without a doubt, continue. In the coming years, as part of the state armament programme, the legendary Sevmash shipyard alone will launch and transfer three more Borei-A-class strategic missile carriers to the Navy.
Five Yasen-M-class submarines are currently under construction, with the construction of the nuclear cruiser Arkhangelsk to be completed soon.
We will undoubtedly deliver on all our plans for the construction of submarine and surface ships. We will strengthen the combat readiness of the Russian Navy quantitatively, and enhance our naval power in the Arctic, the Far East, the Black Sea, the Baltic Sea, and the Caspian Sea which are crucial strategic regions in the world oceans.
I would like to congratulate the naval forces and the Sevmash shipbuilders on today's important event. I express my gratitude to the employees of the enterprise for their professionalism and dedication. I wish successful service to the crews of the ballistic missile submarines in the interests of our people and our country.
(The ceremony for raising naval flags on the nuclear-powered submarines Emperor Alexander III and Krasnoyarsk takes place.)
Congratulations to all of you on this occasion! Best of luck in your service to Russia.
