Mr Dubrovsky briefed Vladimir Putin on the socioeconomic situation in the region and preparations for the 2020 SCO and BRICS summits.
Mr Dubrovsky said that the region’s industrial production index came to 98 percent in 2015, but some sectors had a positive dynamic, including mining, electricity generation, machinery manufacturing, and agriculture. Work is actively underway to prepare for the spring sowing campaign. The agribusiness sector accounted for 10 percent of the gross regional product for the first time ever. The region is implementing the presidential executive orders of May 2012 and is relocating people from dilapidated housing.
Mr Dubrovsky said that the regional authorities are working together with the Foreign Ministry and Presidential Executive Office on preparing for the 2020 SCO and BRICS summits. The region will build a congress hall, rebuild Chelyabinsk airport, and build new hotels. The congress hall will be used later to host concerts, exhibitions, and sports events. Mr Dubrovsky also asked the President to issue an executive order establishing an organising committee for the 2020 SCO and BRICS summits.
