Dmitry Medvedev had a meeting with President of Daghestan Magomedsalam Magomedov

April 1, 2010, Makhachkala

Mr Medvedev expressed his condolences to the families of the police officers killed in the terrorist attack in Kizlyar, and instructed Mr Magomedov to present state decorations to the victims’ families.

Beginning of Meeting with President of Daghestan Magomedsalam Magomedov

President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev: Mr Magomedov, once again in this bilateral format I would like to express to you as President of Daghestan our condolences for the terrorist attack that occurred yesterday. Please pass on this message of condolence and support to all the families of the victims.

I have already indicated my response to this attack at the beginning of the meeting. In any case, we are obliged to support our countrymen both spiritually and materially and we have already discussed what form this material support might take. These decisions will be made in light of individual circumstances.

In this regard I have today decided to bestow these officers with state decorations and I would like you to present these state decorations on my behalf [to their families].

The challenge for our law enforcement agencies is to investigate this crime as quickly as possible. The agencies are going about their business, and it is not for you and me to reveal the operational measures being taken – we know what they are.

I would ask you to provide all possible assistance in this matter to the Federal Security Service, Russia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General’s Office Investigative Committee, in short, just what you are doing as the leader of Daghestan.

This is a serious crime, but we have every opportunity to solve it. As for the future, you and I have already discussed the prospects for the fight against terror in our country. I will be giving all the necessary instructions.
