The meeting took place at the base of a Special Purpose Regiment of the Air Assault Forces to which President Medvedev presented the Order of Kutuzov and at which Hero of Russia Yunus-Bek Yevkurov was on officer.

Mr Yevkurov briefed the President on the socioeconomic situation in the republic.

Mr Medvedev and Mr Yevkurov also discussed crime and terrorism prevention efforts in Ingushetia, in particular, the latest operation against underground armed groups, and preventive work carried out among the population.

The President noted that maintaining social programmes, creating new jobs, and launching new industrial facilities remain the top priorities in Ingushetia.

Dmitry Medvedev said that people who are involved with the illegal groups but want to return to peaceful life must have the chance to do so, but stressed that no negotiating is possible with die-hard elements, and that criminals must be punished.
