Working meeting with Irkutsk Region Governor Sergei Yeroshchenko

Vladimir Putin had a working meeting with Governor of Irkutsk Region Sergei Yeroshchenko. The Governor briefed the President on the region’s socioeconomic situation.

According to Mr Yeroshchenko, Irkutsk Region gives a great deal of attention to the social sector, allocating nearly 20 billion rubles for this purpose. The Governor also announced that three thousand new jobs had recently been created in the region.

At the same time, problems remain with shortage of places in kindergartens with waiting lists of 17,000 children. In addition, Mr Yeroshchenko noted the difficulties in developing internal infrastructure. According to the Governor, a local airline was created for this purpose.

During the meeting, the President asked if an urban development master plan was created for Irkutsk, and the Governor replied that a city development programme is currently being created with participation of various specialists.

Vladimir Putin pointed out the need to develop a full-fledged master plan. In his turn, Mr Yeroshchenko assured the President that the local government will begin work to create a development master plan for Irkutsk soon.
