Trip to Kamchatka Territory

September 29, 2010, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky

During a working visit to Kamchatka, Dmitry Medvedev took part in a ceremony inaugurating the mainline Sobolevo-Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky gas pipeline.

The pipeline was built as part of the programme to establish a common gas production, transport and supply system in Eastern Siberia and the Far East. The 392 kilometre-long pipeline will deliver around 750 million cubic metres of gas a year to consumers in Kamchatka Territory.

The President oversaw the signing of several agreements in the electricity sector, in particular a document on carrying out a project to build a fourth energy production unit at the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Power Plant, and agreements on gas turbine purchases, and electricity supplies from Mutnovskaya Geothermal Power Station 1 to various facilities.

Mr Medvedev also visited a temporary exhibition of promising projects for Kamchatka Territory currently on display at the gas distribution station. The projects include several sports facilities, in particular a biathlon centre, a sports park for winter sports, and a mountain skiing centre.

The President discussed the social and economic situation in the region with Kamchatka Territory Governor Alexei Kuzmitsky, and called on Mr Kuzmitsky to put particular effort into resettling people from old buildings into modern housing.
