July 6, 2021, Kemerovo

Vladimir Putin arrived in Kemerovo on a working trip to take part in celebrations marking the 300th anniversary of Kuzbass.

The President laid flowers at the Monument In Memory of Kuzbass Miners at the Krasnaya Gorka museum preserve, the historical section of Kemerovo where hard coal deposits were discovered in 1721. Created by sculptor Ernst Neizvestny, the memorial is considered the region’s architectural and historical symbol.

The President also attended an official event marking the 300th anniversary of the foundation of Kuzbass.

In addition, Vladimir Putin toured the Siberian Art Cluster cultural and educational centre currently under construction in Kemerovo as part of the Culture national project. The centre will be home to branches of leading Russian theatres, museums and creative universities, as well as concert, museum and exhibition spaces.

Later in the day, the President visited the Defence Ministry’s Kemerovo Presidential Cadet School, toured the classrooms, the gyms and the ice rink. Kuzbass Governor Sergei Tsivilev apprised the President of the plan to build more facilities near the school. A video presentation about the largest secondary education institution in the Kemerovo municipal district, the Yelykayevo school, was made by its director Olga Koshkareva.
