Dmitry Medvedev visited Baltiysk on Navy Day

July 31, 2011, Kaliningrad Region

Dmitry Medvedev watched a naval parade and a military-sports festival. The President congratulated the servicemen and veterans on Russian Navy Day.

The parade was led by the corvette Soobrazitelny, the newest of its kind, built at St Petersburg’s Severnaya Verf shipyard and currently undergoing trials on the Baltic. The ship, a completely new model in the Russian navy, considerably outclasses similar vessels in its tactical and technical characteristics and battle capabilities.

Taking part in the parade were Baltic Fleet vessels including the destroyer Nastoichivy, landing ship RFS Kaliningrad, small anti-submarine ship Kalmykia, small anti-missile ship Liven, BT-230 coastal minesweeper, a missile boat, harbour minesweeper, communications ship, landing craft carrier and others.

Artillery firing, an anti-submarine vessel attacking an enemy submarine, anti-mine support for a submarine leaving its base, and landing of reconnaissance and marines groups were performed during the parade.

After the parade, Mr Medvedev visited the Baltic Fleet’s flagship, the destroyer Nastoichivy. The President looked around the ship, inspected its weaponry, and congratulated the crew on Navy Day.

Later, the President had a working meeting with Governor of Kaliningrad Region Nikolai Tsukanov, with whom he discussed the region’s social and economic situation and simplifying visa formalities with the European Union countries.
