The President is receiving regular reports on the situation in Khakassia from the Emergency Situations Ministry and the regional authorities. Mr Putin is coordinating the work of the regional authorities, rescuers and other emergency services engaged in fighting the fires and providing emergency assistance to the victims.
On April 12, strong winds caused fires to spread to more than 20 towns and villages in Khakassia. The fires have claimed 15 lives and left around 5,000 people homeless.
