Vladimir Putin had a working meeting with Head of the Republic of Kalmykia Alexei Orlov.
Mr Orlov briefed the President on the socioeconomic situation in Kalmykia, particularly on the development of agriculture and industry and the situation on the labour market.
According to the head of the republic, the gross regional product grew by almost 40 percent in 3 years, agricultural production almost doubled, and there is a certain growth of industrial production mainly due to the processing industry.
During the meeting, Mr Orlov asked the President for permission to resign ahead of term in order to take part in the early elections to the post of Head of the Republic of Kalmykia to be held in September.
