Vladimir Putin had a working meeting with Head of the Republic of Kalmykia Alexei Orlov to discuss, among other things, the development of water system in the republic, which has been suffering from droughts for the past few years.
According to Mr Orlov, a concept for the Republic of Kalmykia Water Strategy for 2015–2018 has been developed. To minimise the costs, a mechanism has been developed to use local water sources both in Kalmykia and in the neighbouring regions.
Also, the construction of the Iki-Burul clustered water supply from the Levokumskoye underground water deposits has been completed, with all hydraulic tests carried out, and the republic’s capital will be getting water from that source already this year.
The discussion also touched upon the socioeconomic situation in the region.
