During his trip to Krasnoyarsk Territory, Vladimir Putin had a working meeting with the Governor, Alexander Uss.
The Governor briefed the President on the socioeconomic situation in the region, in particular, on the prospects for developing the transport system. In addition, issues of hosting the Universiade were discussed.
Alexander Uss noted that hosting the Universiade is a momentous and ambitious event that is historic for Krasnoyarsk Territory. He also spoke of the Universiade’s cultural programme designed to showcase the faces of Siberia and the regions along the Yenisei River: Tyva, Khakassia, Evenkia and Taimyr. For example, the Universiade Park features a miniature presentation of everyday life in the northern territories and their exploration.
There was also a discussion of a comprehensive solution to the transport and environmental problem in Krasnoyarsk. According to the Governor, about half of the emissions in the city come from transport. In this regard it is necessary to continue the construction of the metro with two-thirds of its routes located underground under the city centre, while in other parts the metro lines will go up to the surface, where they will be continued by a high-speed tram. The Governor said that new technical solutions slashed the cost of digging the metro by 30–40 percent compared to traditional methods. If all the plans are implemented, the public transport problem in Krasnoyarsk will have been fully resolved by 2023.
The President stressed the need to join the metro, high-speed trams and commuter trains into a single network. In that case, all the elements would complement each other and operate effectively. The President also stressed that the city is developing and it is necessary to future-proof the system and allow for its growth.
