Executive Order on celebrating 250th anniversary of Pavlovsk Palace and Park Ensemble

January 24, 2025

Vladimir Putin signed Executive Order On Celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the Pavlovsk Palace and Park Ensemble.

In connection with the 250th anniversary of the Pavlovsk Palace and Park Ensemble to be marked in 2027, the Government was instructed to set up an organising committee to prepare and hold the anniversary celebrations, as well as to ensure the development and endorsement of a plan for the main events.

The Pavlovsk Palace and Park Ensemble includes the Pavlovsk Palace, a residence of Paul I, and one of the largest landscape parks in Europe covering about 600 hectares.

The ensemble was damaged during the Great Patriotic War. On September 17, 1941, German troops entered Pavlovsk and occupied it until January 24, 1944. The Palace housed the Gestapo headquarters, barracks, and a hospital for officers. In Pavlovsk Park, 70,000 trees were cut down, bridges blown up, the reclamation system destroyed, and pavilions damaged. In January 1944, the Pavlovsk Palace was severely damaged by fire during the Nazi retreat.

Works to restore Pavlovsk began immediately after its liberation. The restoration of the ensemble was completed in 1977.
