Andrei Vorobyov appointed Acting Governor of the Moscow Region

November 8, 2012, The Kremlin, Moscow

Vladimir Putin held a working meeting with Andrei Vorobyov.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Mr Vorobyov, how long have you been heading the United Russia faction in the State Duma?

Andrei Vorobyov: It will be a year in December.

Vladimir Putin: On the whole you have been successful and I wanted to thank you for that. The work in the State Duma is very important and highly responsible, especially in your role as the leader of the majority party parliamentary faction. However, I would like to offer you another post in the executive authorities. You have probably guessed what it is: the post of Acting Governor of the Moscow Region.

Andrei Vorobyov: Mr President, thank you for your confidence. I feel that I am ready and I accept the post. Naturally, I hope to receive your continued support. I realise that this is a large region that faces many challenges but I am ready for this work. The previous team under the leadership of Sergei Shoigu prepared a clear and logical action plan, and we will implement it.

Vladimir Putin: This is a very important region of the country: it has 7 million residents, many entities of science, industry and culture. It is highly developed but there are many issues, including financial and social. This is a big job and it is very important for the country. Most importantly, never forget that your role there is to serve the people.

Andrei Vorobyov: I understand and that's what I will do. Thank you.
