Talking with the servicemen, the President answered a number of questions, in particular on the Armed Forces’ continued modernisation and the prospects for developing contract-based service. Mr Medvedev said during the meeting that compulsory military service would not be lengthened from its current one year.

During his visit to the brigade, the President saw the training ground where shooting and tactical exercises are held, the military medicine training centre, the servicemen’s examination centre, and laid flowers at memorials to servicemen killed in the performance of their duties.
