Dmitry Medvedev invited experts to the Kremlin to hear their views on the construction of the Moscow-St Petersburg motorway through the Khimki Forest, an issue that has raised great public concern.
On August 26, 2010 the President instructed the Government to suspend the project's implementation and conduct further public and expert discussions on the issue, a decision widely supported by environmentalists.
In mid-September hearings were held at the Civic Chamber on the felling of the Khimki Forest.
