Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova visited the Novgorod Region as part of the national inspection of the system for the prevention of social orphanhood. She met with the region’s Acting Governor Alexander Dronov and held a meeting with heads of specialized agencies and institutions.
Maria Lvova-Belova and Acting Governor of the Novgorod Region Alexander Dronov discussed the results of the national inspection in the region. The specialists studied management and financial models and audited 21 institutions and organisations.
The commissioner spoke about the first results that the region achieved after the inspection, and noted that overall the Novgorod Region used resources in a comprehensive manner to work with families in crisis situations and introduced noteworthy practices.
According to the commissioner, the Novgorod Region has an effective drug addition assistance system established, which includes full social support for the recovery of parents after treatment.
Alexander Dronov noted that supporting families with children was an essential task for the region, the best practices are being studied and the region has already submitted two applications for grants.
Maria Lvova-Belova also held a working meeting with heads of institutions for social services for families and children, organisations for orphans and children left without parental care, as well as a meeting with heads of regional prevention system institutions, where she gave a number of recommendations.
During the trip, Maria Lvova-Belova received citizens personally and visited a social hostel, a regional addiction treatment centre, and boarding school No. 5 for orphans and children left without parental care.
