Vladimir Putin held a meeting at the Kremlin with Denis Pasler and offered him the position of Acting Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Mr Pasler, you have already been informed about the offer I am about to make, since the [Presidential] Executive Office has already raised this issue with you. I suggest that you return to your home region, where you have worked in the past in a senior government role, and I ask you to do that. You know this region well, and it is one of the key regions with an advanced manufacturing sector.
In this connection, I must ask you, of course, what do you think about this proposal?
Denis Pasler: Mr President, thank you very much for all this trust and for this offer. You were right to say that this is my home region. Building on your support, and the support of the region’s residents, I will do everything to deliver on the objectives you and the people set for us.
Vladimir Putin: You have worked in this region and know the situation there. What do you think matters the most for Yekaterinburg today, at this point in time, and what will it need in the foreseeable future?
Denis Pasler: As you have rightly said, this is a big region with a developed manufacturing sector. Yekaterinburg is a vibrant city, and it goes without saying that a growing city has to address many challenges. Some matters may be just as relevant today as they were some time ago. Take transport – there has hardly been any progress on this issue for decades. I am referring to metro construction. I believe you are aware of this challenge. There are also several other topics that deserve our attention today.
If I get this opportunity, I would like to spend the next two or three months to prepare a detailed report, considering that I left the region eight years ago, and after that I will ask you to arrange another meeting so that I can present it and ask for assistance.
Vladimir Putin: Over these years, you have acquired valuable experience by heading another important region.
Last year, I observed how you worked when dealing with the consequences of spring floods. You are a man of action, and you know how to focus on finding solutions whenever the need arises, and how to deal with emergencies. I am certain that you will succeed.
Denis Pasler: Mr President, once again, thank you very much for your trust.
Regarding the spring floods, I would like to thank you once more on behalf of the people living in the Orenburg Region. As of today, 390,000 people have received the support they needed. This is a formidable result. We have been making all the disbursements on time, just as I reported back in January.
This is an ongoing effort, since it is clear that construction is still underway. In fact, some people opted to move to other regions, and we offered them this opportunity. Of course, housing construction there may take longer, but we will be making the corresponding allocations this year. This work continues. That said, there is a powerful sense of gratitude among the people of the Orenburg Region for what you have done for them.
Thank you very much.
Vladimir Putin: We must see whether everything has been accomplished. Let us look into this matter right now.
