The President’s first stop was the bridge being built across Zolotoy Rog Bay, which will form the final link in the highway connecting Knevichi Airport to Sanatornaya Station – the route that the APEC delegates will travel. The bridge will offer the shortest route between central Vladivostok and the Goldobin Peninsula, one of the city’s fast developing new areas, from where traffic will then be able to cross the bridge linking Russky Island to the mainland across the Eastern Bosporus Strait. The bridge will be opened for traffic in 2011. 

Mr Medvedev also saw the bridge being built to Russky Island. The bridge will be one of the biggest cable-stayed bridges in the world. Its central span will be 1,104 metres long – a new record in the history of bridge construction. The bridge, together with its approach ramps, will have a total length of 3,100 metres, with a 21-metre wide roadway, and four lanes in all. Construction will be completed in the second quarter of 2012. Currently, the road surface on the approach ramps is being cemented.

The President also visited the Far East Federal University, currently under construction. As planned, the campus will have a total of 22 buildings, and construction work is already underway on 17 of them. Work is going on 24 hours a day, and the buildings will be ready by the end of 2011. Facilities at the new university will be used during the Vladivostok APEC Leaders' Meeting in 2012.

Mr Medvedev held a brief meeting on construction of the APEC Leaders' Meeting facilities.
