Greetings on the opening of the 18th St Petersburg Dialogue Russian-German Public Forum

July 18, 2019

Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to the participants and the guests of the 18th St Petersburg Dialogue Russian-German Public Forum.

The message reads, in part:

“This forum has been instrumental in fostering ties between Russia and Germany for many years now, promoting effective cooperation between wide sections of society in the two countries.

Due to the high profile participants in attendance, it is possible to thoroughly discuss various aspects of political and economic cooperation, as well as cooperation in trade, the economy, science, engineering, nature conservation, the humanitarian and other areas.

This direct informal communication, true person-to-person diplomacy, plays a particularly important role at the current – fairly complicated – stage of inter-state relations.

It is important that young people, who put forward interesting and unconventional ideas and initiatives, are encouraged to take part in the forum.

The theme of your session – Cooperation As the Keynote of a Peaceful Life in Europe: The Contributions of the Civil Societies of Russia and Germany – offers a platform to discuss many important issues on the bilateral and international agendas.

I believe your discussions will be substantive and effective and will help enhance confidence and mutual understanding between the people in our countries.”
