Visit to Seliger 2010 National Youth Education Forum

July 8, 2010, Seliger

Dmitry Medvedev visited the Seliger 2010 National Youth Education Forum, where he viewed an exhibition of young people's innovation projects and spoke in front of forum participants.

The forum features representatives from 89 nations. This shows that Russian society is open to meetings and dialogues, as well as the exchange of knowledge and experience, Mr Medvedev stated. We want Russia to be open to everything that is new; this is necessary in order for our nation to be developed and strong, the President emphasised.

While touring the exhibition, Dmitry Medvedev spoke with forum participants. In particular, the President answered a question on supporting vocational schools, stating that the greatest support for these schools must come from regional authorities. For its part, the government will continue to provide all necessary assistance. In addition, the President noted that nowadays, Russia experiences a shortage of skilled trade workers, and that these people should receive just as much respect as engineers.

Participants in the exhibition told the President about their projects. In particular, Dmitry Medvedev learned about a new, more economical technology for creating heat-resistant and solid concrete, a project for converting associated gas into electricity and heat energy, and the Air Monitor project, designed for making presentations in a new water-evaporation based format. The President also watched a demonstration of a turbine bearings control sensor, which is installed on unmanned aircraft.

The Forum is held in the Tver Region between July 1 and 28, 2010.
