Meeting with Vladislav Khovalyg

April 7, 2021, The Kremlin, Moscow

Vladimir Putin had a working meeting with Vladislav Khovalyg, via videoconference, and announced his decision to appoint him Acting Head of the Republic of Tuva.

Vladimir Putin noted that Vladislav Khovalyg’s entire work activity was connected with the Republic and asked him to describe how he saw the main problems that must be addressed in the region first of all.

Vladislav Khovalyg said the implementation of the recently adopted individual plan for the socioeconomic development of the Republic of Tuva was the main area of focus, including the development of the industries that provide the most employment for the local population, such as light industry and processing of agricultural raw materials.

Among the problems Vladislav Khovalyg listed energy deficit, high electricity tariffs, high coal prices, environmental problems in the capital of the Republic, and the outflow of rural population to cities. He added that he needed 7–10 days to familiarise himself with the current situation in the Republic and then report on it more specifically and accurately.

Vladimir Putin noted that Vladislav Khovalyg was an experienced person who has been working in the power sector in recent years and that he will cope with the new volume of work. The President noted that there were a lot of matters to address in the Republic, wished Mr Khovalyg success and promised support.
