Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Naryshkin took part in a conference of heads of general jurisdiction courts

February 15, 2011, Moscow

Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Naryshkin took part in a conference of heads of supreme courts of Russia’s republics and courts of regions, territories, autonomous districts, military and naval districts to review the general jurisdiction courts’ performance in 2010, and the tasks for 2011.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr Naryshkin stressed the President’s opinion that “the Russian judicial system should become more advanced, accessible, effective and adequate to the level of a democratic and law-based state”. Sergei Naryshkin pointed out that all branches of power must engage in countering terrorism, extremism, organised crime, and corruption.

“It is our common task to do everything possible to give Russia a modern and efficient judicial system that guarantees our people’s rights and lawful interests. Much has been achieved over these last years to raise the judicial system’s standing and ensure our courts’ and judges’ independence,” Mr Naryshkin said.
