September 20, 2011, Tskhinval

Sergei Naryshkin attended a parade in honour of South Ossetia's Independence Day.

Mr Naryshkin read out Dmitry Medvedev’s message of congratulations to President of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity.

The message reads, in part:

“This national holiday has become firmly established as part of your state’s history. It embodies the aspiration of the South Ossetian people to lead a safe and peaceful life.

Today, the sovereign Republic of South Ossetia consistently tackles the challenges of state building and socioeconomic reconstruction. I am confident that the presidential election in November will confirm the progress of democracy and civil society.

The friendly Republic of South Ossetia can continue to rely on Russia’s support in carrying out further reforms for the benefit of its citizens and peace and stability in the region.”
