The working group on improving Russia’s electoral legislation and the laws on political parties held its first meeting under the chairmanship of First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Vyacheslav Volodin.
The meeting discussed President Medvedev’s legislative initiatives aimed at liberalising the laws on political parties and improving the electoral legislation.
Draft instructions based on the outcomes of the President’s meeting with the leaders of registered political parties held on February 15, 2012 are ready. Draft instructions following Mr Medvedev’s meeting with leaders of unregistered political parties held on February 20 are currently being drawn up.
Dmitry Medvedev proposed establishing the working group during his meeting with the leaders of registered political parties. The group’s members include representatives of both registered and unregistered political parties, the Russian Federation Civic Chamber, the Central Electoral Commission, and the Presidential Executive Office.
