Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov chaired a meeting of the Government Commission on Preparations for the 200th Anniversary Celebration of Russia's Victory in the 1812 Patriotic War. The meeting was attended by Government Commission members, representatives of federal and regional executive power bodies, local authorities, public associations and creative unions.
The participants discussed the degree of readiness for the events to be held at the Borodino Field State Borodino War and History Museum and Reserve, the participation of foreign dignitaries in the anniversary celebrations, including preparations for the Moscow to Paris horse race.
Currently, a large share of repair, restoration and reconstruction work has been completed in the Moscow Kremlin and the Borodino Field, the site of a major battle in the 1812 Patriotic War between the Russian army and the army of Napoleon Bonaparte. Many monuments, memorials and graves of fallen heroes have been repaired and restored in Smolensk, Moscow and Kaluga regions.
Following the meeting, the Education and Science Ministry received instructions to organise special classes to be held on September 1 at general educational institutions on the 1812 Patriotic War, as well as Russian Army’s foreign campaigns of 1813–1815.
The Bank of Russia was instructed to continue the production of commemorative coins.
Around 800 events will be held in Moscow to commemorate the Russian army’s victory in the 1812 Patriotic War. On the Day of Military Glory on September 8 (the day the Battle of Borodino was fought in 1812) celebrations will be held on the Borodino Field, which will be attended by military history clubs from France, Poland, Belgium and Scotland.
