Meeting of Presidential Anti-Corruption Council Presidium

Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov chaired a meeting of the Presidium of the Presidential Council for Countering Corruption.

Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov reported at the meeting on the efforts of the working group for cooperation with civil society and the prospects for more effective participation of NGOs in anti-corruption activities.

The Council's Presidium approved a draft Concept of Cooperation between State Agencies, Local Authorities and Civil Society in Fighting Corruption until 2014.

First Deputy Prosecutor General Alexander Buksman reported on the performance of the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation in combating corruption crimes and on measures to improve the coordination of their activities. Mr Buksman noted that in the first six months of 2012, law enforcement agencies significantly intensified their efforts to uncover corruption offences committed by organised groups and involving large and especially large amounts of money. The Council Presidium instructed the Prosecutor General to submit proposals on ways to optimise a prosecutor’s powers in submitting cases to the arbitration court involving violations of the law in the turnover of state and municipal property.

Director of the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation Talia Khabrieva reported on the Institute’s efforts to provide scientific and methodological support to countering corruption. The Council Presidium issued a recommendation to use these findings the in anti-corruption activities of the Russian regions.
