Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov took part in the eighth meeting of supreme courts presidents of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states.
Mr Ivanov called on the SCO member states’ courts to expand their cooperation, noting the importance of working together to fight corruption and trans-border crime, and of continuing to review judicial practice and organise regular exchange of professional experience.
The Chief of Staff also said it is important to harmonise legislation and national legal systems and improve law enforcement practice. Only by working together is it possible to combat global challenges and threats such as drug trafficking, financing of terrorism, extremism, arms smuggling, and economic crime, he said. He also stressed the importance of strict compliance with international law and the need to provide mutual legal assistance in considering cases.
Mr Ivanov noted that an ever growing number of countries see the SCO as a responsible and reliable partner. Many countries with observer status seek to become full members of the organisation, and this clearly demonstrates the SCO’s influence and attractiveness.
