Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Magomedsalam Magomedov and Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the Siberian Federal District Nikolai Rogozhkin chaired a seminar and conference with regional governors’ deputies on implementing state ethnic policy.
In his remarks, Mr Magomedov noted the overall positive changes that have taken place in interethnic relations in the Siberian Federal District.
Surveys show that the number of people who characterise as friendly and good the relations between people of different ethnic backgrounds in their place of residence increased and stood at 81 percent for the region as a whole on average (the figure was 73 percent in February 2013, and 77 percent in February 2014).
But at the same time, Mr Magomedov noted the mostly low assessments that people gave of the effectiveness of regional authorities’ work in this area.
Mr Magomedov said that with the country about to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Victory, efforts should focus on highlighting the victory’s multi-ethnic dimension and noted too the need for comprehensive work with young people, including work to prevent the spread of nationalist ideas.
The regional representatives reported at the meeting on implementation of the State Ethnic Policy Strategy through to 2025, exchanged experience in interethnic relations, and drafted recommendations for further work.
Taking part in the seminar were Governor of Novosibirsk Region Vladimir Gorodetsky, Deputy Culture Minister Alexander Zhuravsky, members of the Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations, and experts in the field of interethnic relations.
Mr Magomedov had a meeting with Governor of Novosibirsk Region Vladimir Gorodetsky as part of his working trip.
The regional authorities invited Mr Magomedov to visit Akademgorodok, where he saw demonstrations of the latest developments from the technopark’s companies.
