Meeting of State Council working group on improving Russia’s general education system

November 10, 2015

Presidential Aide and State Council Secretary Igor Levitin held the third meeting of the State Council working group on improving the general education system in the Russian Federation.

Participants in the meeting included representatives of the State Duma, federal and regional executive bodies, public organisations and the teaching and expert communities.

The head of the working group, Primorye Territory Governor Vladimir Miklushevsky, briefed meeting participants on the working group’s efforts to prepare a report. A great deal of analytical work has been done concerning the quality of education for the growing generation.

The report shows that a child’s identity is central in the modern Russian school. For the first time, the new educational standards include not only requirements for students’ academic progress, but also requirements for personality development of graduates. The school not only provides knowledge, forming skills and know-how, but also develops children’s abilities, engages them in socially meaningful activities, builds an interest in work and provides vocational guidance; it also engages families, civil society organisations, and cultural and sports associations, as well as professional and higher education institutions in this work.

Addendums and comments from participants in the meeting will be taken into account when finalising the report by the working group and preparing materials for the upcoming State Council meeting in December 2015.
