Presidential Aide and Deputy Chairman of the Council for Development of Physical Culture and Sport Igor Levitin held a summary meeting of the Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sport working group, addressing the development of hockey in Russia, the course of preparations for holding the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship and training Russia’s Olympic team for the 2018 XXIII Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.
The meeting participants discussed the report to be submitted for the Council meeting. The report gave evidence of the current development level of hockey in Russia and sports achievements by Russian athletes at the biggest international athletic competitions, documented suggestions to further develop hockey, touching on issue of research methodology and medical and biological support in athletic training, and improving the quality of training staff.
In particular, suggestions to further develop hockey include giving special attention to improving the material infrastructure, public-private partnerships, and experience in efficient use of athletic facilities; developing measure to improve professional hockey, creating an efficient athletic hockey industry, and increasing the appeal of televised hockey broadcasts.
A separate, important section of the report addressed training the Olympic team for the 2018 XXIII Winter Olympic Games and XII Winter Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang.
A decision was made on finalising the report, taking into account the day’s discussion.
