This was the Public Council’s first meeting. More than 130 representatives of NGOs, including human rights organisations, charity funds, public associations, scientific and educational establishments, religious faiths, and the business community took part in the event.
The Public Council’s primary task is to support public initiatives that protect children’s rights and lawful interests.
The Public Council has now set up working groups in the following areas: healthcare, education, child-rearing, cultural development, volunteer work, protecting the family and traditional family values, information security, preventing deviant behaviour, and respect for the rights of children without parents’ guardianship.
Ms Kuznetsova said that relevant proposals put forward during the plenary session and discussions in the working groups would form the base for further plans for the children’s rights commissioners’ work. The Public Council’s next meeting is scheduled for early 2017.
