Meeting of the working group to monitor the implementation of the decisions of the State Council and its Presidium on fulfilling the Presidential instructions on increasing the efficiency of the timber industry

February 28, 2017

In Krasnoyarsk, Presidential Aide Igor Levitin chaired a meeting of the working group to monitor the implementation of decisions of the State Council and its Presidium on fulfilling the Presidential instructions of 7 May 2013 related to enhancing the efficiency of the timber industry in Russia.

Speaking at the meeting of the working group were Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the Siberian Federal District Sergei Menyailo, Krasnoyarsk Territory Governor Viktor Tolokonsky, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and Director of the Federal Forestry Agency Ivan Valentik and representatives of federal and regional executive bodies as well as directors of Krasnoyarsk Territory timber companies.

The working group twice reviewed the implementation of these instructions in 2014 and 2015, and the resulting documents noted the flaws in the implementation of these instructions.

The group’s previous meetings led to a report that was submitted to the President.

The analysis made during the preparation of the meeting showed that substantial work was done to rectify the situation. As of now, 24 out of 28 instructions have been taken off the watch list.

During the meeting the participants reviewed progress made on introducing amendments to the law pertaining to the use, protection and safety of forests, measures related to forest management and the registration of forest plots in the state cadastre.

The minutes of the meeting will be forwarded to the relevant ministries and departments.
