Meeting of the Council for Interethnic Relations Presidium

Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Magomedsalam Magomedov chaired a meeting of the Council for Interethnic Relations Presidium.

Opening the meeting, Magomedsalam Magomedov said that during the five years of its work the Council held seven meetings, including one in cooperation with the Council on the Russian Language. The meetings produced 74 instructions.

Among the most important administrative decisions implemented are: the elaboration and endorsement of the Strategy for the State Ethnic Policy through 2025; the establishment of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs; the approval of the state programme Implementation of the State Ethnic Policy, and the establishment of the Presidential Award for Contributions to Strengthening the Unity of the Russian Nation.

“These and other decisions of the Council have certainly played an important role in transitioning to the systemic implementation of the state ethnic policy and ensuring interethnic accord in our country in general,” Mr Magomedov said.

At the meeting the Council adopted a decision to discuss at its next meeting the implementation of the Strategy for the State Ethnic Policy at the regional and municipal levels.

In addition, the Council summed up the results of the activities of the working group on preparing proposals on a draft statutory instrument on regulating relations in a bid to consolidate the unity of multi-ethnic Russia. A relevant report was delivered by the head of the working group, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valery Tishkov.

The agenda of the meeting also included a project on establishing a national network of the Platform multi-functional youth centres. The project was presented by Chairman of the Commission on Information Support for the Council’s Ethnic Policy and President of the Union of Armenians of Russia national public organisation Ara Abramyan.

In conclusion, the Council reviewed issues of the nomination and independent expert analysis of candidates for the Presidential Award for Contributions to Strengthening the Unity of the Russian Nation.
