The 15th Conference of Regional Children’s Rights Commissioners took place in Moscow on May 28–29. The conference was entitled The Decade of Childhood: Happy Children – Happy Country.
As the conference opened, Anna Kuznetsova congratulated the winners of the Vector Childhood-2018 initiative and presented them with awards. The Family social rehabilitation centre for minors from Tyumen won the Project of the Year category with its project of an emergency social service.
The ten best regional practices to support families and children selected by the Vector Childhood-2018 contest include social projects supporting young families and families with many children, parentless children, children with disabilities and rare (orphan) diseases. The expert commission also selected 100 more regional best practices to be recognised with awards. More than 700 social projects participated in the initiative.
During a plenary session, Anna Kuznetsova presented a report in which she outlined the main areas of work for the children’s rights commissioners for the next year and stressed the importance of improving the current and developing new ways to support families with many children and adoptive families.
Anna Kuznetsova pointed out the most pressing issues in children’s medicine, including shortage of medication for children with orphan diseases and children’s palliative care; support, socialisation and housing for parentless children once they leave children’s homes.
