Meeting of Interdepartmental Commission to support Russia's G20 participation

February 6, 2019, Moscow

The Interdepartmental Commission to support Russia's G20 participation has met for the first time after it was formed by a Presidential decision to strengthen the mechanisms for developing common positions and coordinate the activities of federal executive bodies as well as other concerned agencies in promoting Russia’s interests in G-20.

The G20 Leaders’ Summit in Buenos Aires, held in December 2018, demonstrated that G20 remains the most effective and relevant format for multilateral cooperation of the world's leading economies on a range of global socio-economic issues.

Therefore, the Commission members at their meeting paid particular attention to comprehensive preparations for the President’s participation in the next G20 Summit in Osaka on June 28–29, 2019.

A wide range of topics on the financial and economic agenda were discussed during the first meeting of the Commission, as well as trade, investment, digital economy, employment, education, energy, climate, food security, health, development, migration, and the fight against corruption and terrorism.

The participants defined their goals, objectives and approaches to upholding Russia’s interests and promoting its initiatives at the G20. Interdepartmental working groups on the key G20 activities have been formed and structured, and will also include representatives of business, academic and expert organisations.
