Presidential Aide and State Council Secretary Igor Levitin together with Head of the State Council working group on the environment and natural resources, Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin held a regular working group meeting on forest management, including measures aimed at preventing violations in this sphere.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dmitry Kobylkin, Adviser to the President, Special Presidential Representative on Climate Issues Ruslan Edelgeriyev, Acting Head of the Federal Forestry Agency (Rosleskhoz) Mikhail Klinov, as well as representatives of federal executive bodies, Russian regions, research and expert organisations.
In his remarks, Gleb Nikitin discussed forest management problems and noted that the working group is considering forestry issues with a focus on the practical implementation of the Forest Conservation federal project as part of the Environment National Project.
Dmitry Kobylkin spoke about the prospects for the industry’s development, ways to improve state regulation of this sphere, including the possibility of putting part of it back under federal control.
Mikhail Klinov reported on the priority steps to address problems of forest protection and reproduction, focusing specifically on protection from fires and illegal logging.
As a result of the discussion, the participants outlined the fields for further action including forest management and forest inventor, reproduction of forests and seed farming, forest fire safety, federal oversight of forestry issues and fire supervision, forest health protection; and forestry financing.
