Adviser to the President and Special Presidential Representative on Climate Issues Ruslan Edelgeriyev had a meeting with Prime Minister of the federal state of Saxony Michael Kretschmer, who is in Russia on a working visit to take part in the events of the Year of Germany in Russia.

Ruslan Edelgeriyev presented the main areas of Russia’s climate policy, including plans to develop low-carbon hydrogen and nuclear energy, reduce methane emissions, and implement climate projects to reduce the carbon footprint of production. He stressed the importance of the country's balanced socioeconomic development and the progressive reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement.

The German side welcomed the goals concerning climate change response set by Vladimir Putin during the Address to the Federal Assembly and the Leaders Summit on Climate. Representatives of the delegation from the federal state of Saxony proposed to continue a detailed dialogue on increasing the absorption of greenhouse gases in forests and the development of hydrogen energy.

Special attention was paid to regional initiatives, including an experiment involving the regulation of greenhouse gas emissions in the Sakhalin Region and the prospects for adapting the coal regions of the Federal Republic of Germany to structural economic changes.

Ruslan Edelgeriyev and Michael Kretschmer agreed to continue the dialogue at the working level, as well as within the Petersberg Climate Dialogue and the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.
