Maria Lvova-Belova chaired the first meeting of the Federal Children’s Public Council, the new advisory body under the Commissioner for Children’s Rights, via videoconference.
The event was attended by about 70 representatives of children’s and youth organisations from different regions of Russia. They familiarised themselves with the Council’s plans, the principles governing its membership composition and organisational structure, and the algorithms for interaction with the Office of the Commissioner for Children’s Rights. Specifically, the young people asked to what extent the Council would be represented in social media and what status it would have in the regions.
Maria Lvova-Belova expressed certainty that the Council’s activities would facilitate the development of similar advisory bodies in the regions, promote the agenda and a programme of projects with the institution of commissioners for children’s rights in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, and that it would serve children’s interests.
Ms Lvova-Belova also said that from August 12 to September 1, 2022, the Okean (Ocean) National Children’s Centre in Vladivostok would host a special event for children’s public councils. A packed programme is planned for participants from different regions that would include joint project work, foresight sessions and discussions, and social activities and entertainment.
