Presidential Adviser and Special Presidential Representative on Climate Issues Ruslan Edelgeriyev had a meeting with Plenipotentiary Envoy of the Republic of Armenia on Debt-for-Climate Swaps Erik Grigoryan.
During their conversation, they discussed debt-clearing prospects for the Republic of Armenia by implementing joint climate projects. This approach makes it possible to reduce the borrower’s debt burden and to facilitate the implementation of comprehensive measures to decarbonise the economy.
The parties charted a number of potential projects, including those aiming to strengthen the capacity of hydrometeorology services, to promote electric transport and to adapt to climate change.
Ruslan Edelgeriyev suggested using market mechanisms for this purpose under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement that can serve as a basis for joint implementation of climate projects.
The Russian Federation’s national contribution to attaining the temperature goals of the Paris Agreement includes the provision of voluntary technological assistance to 12 states, including the Republic of Armenia.
The parties agreed to continue their routine interaction as planned.
