Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova visited children evacuated from Donbas who are being treated and rehabilitated at the Research Institute of Emergency Pediatric Surgery and Traumatology in Moscow.
In April, 10 tonnes of humanitarian supplies, collected as part of the Into Children’s Hands! campaign, were sent to the Republican Trauma Centre and temporary accommodation centres near Mariupol as part of Maria Lvova-Belova's working trip to the Donetsk People’s Republic. Maria Lvova-Belova also accompanied 10 children sent to Russia for treatment and rehabilitation.
Four children, aged five to 16, with injuries, fractures and shrapnel wounds were sent for rehabilitation to the Research Institute of Emergency Pediatric Surgery and Traumatology under an agreement with the Moscow Department of Health, the Ministry of Healthcare and the Russian Ministry of Defence. Six more children from the Lugansk People’s Republic, all aged under 11 and with severe illnesses requiring specialised medical care, were taken to the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital for treatment. In addition, another 20 children previously evacuated from the Donetsk People’s Republic and Lugansk People’s Republic are undergoing treatment and rehabilitation at Dr Roshal's clinic.
On May 12, Maria Lvova-Belova together with Valery Mitish, Director of the Research Institute of Emergency Pediatric Surgery and Traumatology, visited the wards, talked to the children and their parents and presented them with laptops and tablets. The Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights also thanked the attending doctors and the staff of the medical institution for their work and professionalism.
