Meeting of the State Council Commission on Agriculture

June 29, 2022

Presidential Aide, State Council Secretary Igor Levitin and Chairman of the State Council Commission on Agriculture, Governor of the Altai Territory Viktor Tomenko held a meeting to discuss digitalisation of the agricultural industry as part of the Siberian Field Day interregional agricultural forum.

Taking part in the meeting were deputy ministers of agriculture Yelena Fastova and Andrei Razin, specialised deputies of senior regional officials, as well as representatives of relevant federal executive authorities, industrial unions, expert organisations and development institutes.

In his opening remarks, Igor Levitin noted that the President had set tasks to preserve the food self-sufficiency of the country, to reach much higher growth rates in the agricultural industry, and to increase the supply of high-quality, affordable food products to the domestic market. The introduction of information technologies in the agricultural industry is an important condition for achieving these goals.

Viktor Tomenko emphasised that today the Russian agricultural industry is one of the largest consumers of digital solutions: agricultural producers are more actively taking up precision farming, using remote sensing data, and applying digital technologies for the accounting, control and sale of products. He gave the example of the Altai Territory to demonstrate the results of practical implementation of a digital service for assessing and analysing the situation in crop production based on the data of field weather stations.

The meeting participants noted in their speeches that active work was underway on the federal and regional level to create a regulatory framework to achieve digital maturity in agriculture, with a special focus on ensuring the traceability of products, creating digital services for land improvement, and effectively developing agricultural land. The Russian Federation Government will review the recommendations made at the meeting.
