Presidential Adviser and Special Presidential Representative on Climate Issues Ruslan Edelgeriyev met with Egypt’s Ambassador to Russia Nazih Ali Elnaggary.
The officials discussed preparations for the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP 27), the UN climate change conference to be held on November 6–18, 2022, in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
Ruslan Edelgeriyev again emphasised the need for a depoliticised and unbiased approach to climate issues. The desire was expressed to remain pragmatic and well-intentioned, and to maintain an atmosphere of cooperation.
The initiatives of the Egyptian Presidency of the conference were also discussed. Mr Edelgeriyev assured Mr Elnaggary that these proposals will be reviewed at the domestic government level as soon as possible.
The officials reaffirmed the shared goal of attracting greater attention of the international community to the problems of Africa in the context of climate change.
They agreed to maintain regular contact.
