Maria Lvova-Belova visits the Saratov Region

Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova visited the Saratov Region as part of the nationwide inspection of the system for preventing child abandonment. The children's ombudsman discussed with the region's Governor Roman Busargin the supporting of childhood, and together with Mr Busargin held a working meeting with the heads of agencies and institutions of the system for the prevention of child neglect and juvenile delinquency, guardianship and custody agencies.

In course of her meeting with the governor of the Saratov Region Maria Lvova-Belova noted that the region has developed various forms of support for families with children, but it is important to improve work with parents so that as few children as possible have to be taken care of by the agencies of the system of prevention of child neglect and juvenile delinquency.

Roman Busargin spoke about the support measures for families with children, which are implemented in the region. This year more than 1.3 billion rubles have been allocated for families with many children, the number of which has been growing in recent years reaching 26,500. Free kindergarten attendance, free travel and free meals at school, compensation for part of the cost of utilities and much more are available or this category of families, stressed the governor.

Together with the governor the commissioner for children’s rights held a working meeting with the heads of agencies and institutions of the system for the prevention of child neglect and juvenile delinquency, as well as guardianship and custody agencies.

During her working trip Maria Lvova-Belova also visited the Nadezhda Saratov Social and Rehabilitation Centre, Engels Children’s Clinical Hospital, the House of Sobriety medical centre and a specialised infant home.
