The event focused on the preparation and participation of the book community in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Presidential Aide, Secretary of the Council for Culture and Art, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Book Union (RBU) Vladimir Medinsky took part in a meeting of the RBU Presidium. It was also attended by RBU Head Sergei Stepashin, Special Presidential Representative for International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoy, Director of the Department of State Support for Periodicals and the Book Industry of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Vladimir Grigoryev, as well as representatives of the book publishing industry.
Vladimir Medinsky stressed that the book industry should consolidate its efforts to prepare for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Presidential Aide called on publishing houses to focus on the release of books dedicated to the significant date.
The meeting participants also made it a point that it was necessary to saturate library collections and the book market with patriotic literature, paying particular attention to the libraries of Russian-language schools and Slavic universities in the CIS countries. They also deliberated on the importance of increasing the interest of children and young people in reading in general and literature about the Great Patriotic War and the heroes of the special military operation in particular.
